Roan Mountain

Ahhhh!  Camping again!  I told Landon Roan Mountain would be my new happy place.  But first, our Niagara trip begins in Irmo.

Goodbye Irmo!  We started out on Saturday, July 15th and headed NW for the Appalachian Mountains.  No kids.  No car top carrier.  Just the two of us and our new kickin' van courtesy of my cool uncle, Donnie Campbell.  This way of traveling has changed our lives.  We can put all the seats down (stow and go) and fill the back with all our gear.  It's so spacious, in fact, that it's almost like a portable closet.  We don't have to take our clothes bags out at all!  Just open the side door and select your clothes for the day.

With all the essentials locked and loaded, we were on our way!

We arrived in Roan Mountain for a quick one night stay.  The campgrounds were beautiful and offered personal access to the small creek running along our campsite.  The fast moving, icy water was absolutely therapeutic for my somewhat swollen ankle.

After relaxing for a bit and taking full appreciation for the beauty around us, we headed out for a bite to eat.  We found the Smokey Mountain Bakery just a few miles from our campsite.  The place looked more like a house than a dining establishment open to the public.  They had a pretty extensive garden growing in front with tomatoes, peppers, and basil.

But oh the pizza!!  This is quite honestly the best pizza I have EVER had!  The dough was unbelievably light and fluffy and the combination of cheeses was spot on.  We saved the cinnamon rolls for breakfast and they were not a disappointment.

In the morning we packed up and headed out for Morgantown WV.  We did not want to leave our little waterfront spot, but vowed to come back soon as it is only a couple hours from Irmo.  See ya in Dub-V!
